AC-DC and DC-DC Programmable Power Supplies
Wide adjust output power supplies are capable of delivering a variable output voltage that traditionally was set using a potentiometer mounted on the power supply itself. With the advent of current regulated power supplies, remote setting of the output voltage and current became more desirable. Early dc power supplies of this type featured remotely locatable potentiometers. Technology advanced to allow 0-5VDC and 0-10VDC programming, and finally digital control such as RS232, Ethernet, and USB was developed.
Acopian manufactures several ac-dc and dc-dc power supply models that are remotely programmable. Our Low Profile switching power supplies are capable of 0-5VDC and 0-10VDC programming, and also feature analog monitoring of the actual output voltage and current. Our 1U switching power supplies are capable of remote analog programming as well as digital programming through RS232, USB, and Ethernet communications. Our special power systems using our Infinity linear regulated power supplies or our Low Profile switching power supply models can be equipped with analog voltage programming as well as RS232, USB, and Ethernet interfaces.
Why use a programmable power supply?
More and more systems that use power supplies are becoming computer controlled. Using a programmable power supply allows digital or analog control of the power supply output by a control system for maximum versatility. The control system can control and monitor the power supply output voltage and current from virtually anywhere there is an Ethernet connection. Thus, plant-wide automation parameters can be monitored by one central computer, and process variables can be adjusted to maximize production and quality.
Can I remotely turn a power supply on and off?
Any of Acopian’s switching regulated wide adjust power supplies and our Infinity wide adjust linear power supplies can be remotely enabled and disabled using discrete signals. Acopian power supplies with digital interface capabilities can be enabled and disabled through the interface.
I need a system with multiple power supplies. Can they all be connected to a digital interface for remote programming and monitoring?
If you use Acopian’s Infinity linear wide adjust power supplies or any of our switching regulated wide adjust power supplies, they can be connected to a digital interface for remote programming and monitoring.
Can programmable power supplies be adjusted manually if the digital interface or computer fails?
All Acopian programmable power supplies have local adjustment pots mounted in the power supply (Infinity use suffix C2). In the event of an interface failure, the operator can revert to manual control with the addition of a simple jumper.
