Rectifier
The term ‘rectifier’ is often used interchangeably with ‘Power Supply’ in non-electronic applications, such as electrolysis and metal plating, and when powering electromechanical loads. The power supplies used in many of these applications may be relatively basic, with tight regulation and low output ripple not necessary, although current (rather than voltage) regulation and/or provision for monitoring may be required for the control of chemical processes.
